Description

Speedsters are delighted to offer this exceptionally rare and beautifully presented Intermeccanica 356 Speedster recreation.

Finished in stunning Black Cherry Red Pearl Metallic with a Black Ghost Stripe and Gold detailing, this striking example is presented over its original blue body colour and complemented by cream leather bucket seats with black and cream over mats.

Finished on a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle chassis, this left-hand-drive example is a genuine US-market car which was imported into the United Kingdom and first registered here on 3 July 1995.

Intermeccanica is widely regarded as one of the finest manufacturers of 356 recreations, with build quality, accuracy and driving dynamics that place it firmly at the top of the market. Opportunities to acquire an example of this calibre are increasingly rare.

Powered by a 2.0-litre air-cooled petrol engine and presented in outstanding condition throughout, the car has benefited from substantial recent expenditure and improvement works.

In 2020, the vehicle underwent a major refurbishment programme including:

• Full body wrap in Black Cherry Red Pearl Metallic
• Full engine-out service
• New clutch
• New brake pads
• New body trims and rubbers
• New Bluetooth audio system
• Refurbished gauges
• New headlamps and lighting components
• New distributor and electronic ignition system
• New ignition leads
• New mats
• New tonneau cover
• Front wheel spacers
• New heater control mechanism and controls

More recently, approximately three months ago, the car underwent a comprehensive mechanical overhaul. The current owner advises that virtually all mechanical systems were inspected and renewed where required, with only around 40 kilometres covered since completion.

It starts instantly, drives superbly and has reportedly only been used for occasional local journeys since the work was completed.

Additional Features Include:

• Left-hand drive
• Historic Vehicle status
• Hidden battery isolation switch
• Anti-theft battery isolation system
• Manual transmission
• Nardi wood-rim steering wheel
• White-faced gauges
• Period-style instrumentation
• Leather bonnet straps
• Classic badging
• Front fog lamps
• Classic silver EMPI-style alloy wheels
• Upgraded LED headlamps
• Tonneau cover
• Excellent hood cover presentation

According to the history file, the vehicle is recorded as having been manufactured in 1973, was originally supplied to the United States and was first registered in the United Kingdom on 3 July 1995. The accompanying history file contains details of restoration, maintenance and improvement works carried out throughout its ownership.

A beautifully sorted, highly desirable and increasingly collectible Intermeccanica that combines timeless styling, proven Volkswagen underpinnings, reliability and exceptional road presence.
