SEVERN CLASSICS LTD
Severn Classics, sister company of Veranti Motor Company, and run by Steve ‘Sport’ Griffiths, offers its own range of kits alongside their classic car restoration work. Steve has a long racing career and his roots in race engineering and mechanics goes back to involvement in Moto-Cross during the early 1980s. He was later a mechanic in Peugeot’s WRC team in 1994.
In 1994 Severn Classics announced this that they have purchased the old Legend Speedster project that was formerly sold under Sheldonhurst, DJ Sportscars (DAX) and Covin banners.
The old kit design has been significantly updated and a very nice demonstrator has been produced called ‘Arabella’. They are also offering a ‘California’ kit – not a Speedster replica but loosely based on the Speedster design with flared wheel arches and minimal trim.
The kits use the VW Beetle as the donor – either an early swing axle car or a more modern IRS chassis can be used. Severn Classics will shorten the floor pan for you and can help with further work to move your build forward if necessary.
I understand that basic kit packages are available from around £6,600 plus VAT and feature pre-mounted doors, bonnet and engine covers. From the information I have seen so far this looks like an excellent replica with no modern ‘upgrades’ like big comfy seats and wind-up windows to spoil the classic look
